A message from the non playing captain Gordon Boal

The Ulster team consisted of a team of 28 players split over the 4 age groups. Old rivalries and friendships were renewed with a high standard of tennis and matches played in a friendly but competitive spirit.

On Sunday the weather was very kind with wall-to-wall sunshine and Ulster ended up with 11 points after day 1. The weather totally changed on Monday with players having to endure heavy rain, winds and very cold conditions.  These conditions were more difficult to play in but our team stuck to the task and started to put together a run of victories and with 2 matches left we were one point behind Leinster.  Certainly my nerves started to kick in as out of nowhere we had a scent of victory. Our Mens 75 team were able to bring in the 2 wins leaving Ulster winners by one point.

So, let’s look at the scores on the doors. Ulster retained the title, coming out winners with 30 points, Leinster second with 29, Munster third on 14 points with Connaught on 8 points. This was a brilliant performance by our side. Team spirit and support was there for all to see, with players rooting for each other. Ladies 70s & 80s teams won their sections as did Men’s 65s &70s. Ulster have now won this title three years in a row. Great team spirit throughout.

I would also like to thank Lansdowne Tennis Club for the use of the courts and to the caterers and bar staff who did a superb job. Emma and Tina did a great job overseeing the matches and scores. From the Ulster point of view I would like to thank Letty Lucas for her support and for organising our team and our accommodation. The team are listed below:-
