Interprovincial Report
27/05/2010
The recent Senior Veterans Interpros in Limerick saw Ulster finish a very creditable second to Leinster, with 96 matches played in the two days of competition.
From an Ulster perspective there were some very good results, including in the Men’s 65 section where Paddy Brockerton and Ian Williams had a great win over Leinster’s Dave Young and Simon Gordon on a 6/3 6/2 scoreline. In fact, the Ulster pair won all three of their matches beating Munster’s John Barry and Eddie Coakley 6/3 6/1 and Connacht’s Peter Dodds and Patrick Fannin 7/6 6/3 to complete a great treble. Aidan Deery and his boat club partner Noel Campbell also had a good weekend with wins over Leinster 6/3 6/3, Connacht 6/3 6/4 and over Munster by 6/0 6/0 to complete another great treble. The third Ulster pair to record a hat trick of wins were the long term doubles partnership of Letty Lucas and Liz Thompson, who won all their matches in straight sets, beating Leinster 6/4 6/2, Munster 6/2 6/2 and Connacht with a scoreline of 6/2 6/3.
Also in the ladies section Jenny McDonnell
and Irene Hewitt teamed up in the 65 age group to beat Munster and Connacht in
straight-set wins but lost to the strong Leinster pairing of Nora Glynn and Liz O’Gorman on a 1/6 2/6
scoreline.
The final placings were:
Winners Leinster 37 points
2nd place Ulster 28 points
3rd place Munster 24 points
4th place Connacht 7 points
